Formed in 1936, MBG Marketing – The Blueberry People is the world’s largest producer-owned blueberry and blackberry marketing cooperative. Originally named the Michigan Blueberry Growers Association, it was founded by the state’s blueberry growers and rapidly became an industry leader as blueberry production began flourishing across the US.

By the 1940s, MBG extended its membership to northern Indiana. Georgia and Florida were incorporated in 1983 and as of 2006, British Columbia, North Carolina, New Jersey, Oregon and Washington have joined the cooperative, giving MBG a production base of more than 300 growers.

MBG Today

Headquartered in Grand Rapids, Michigan, MBG today annually employs more than 200 seasonal and full-time workers across North America. Its state-of-the-art receiving, pre-cooling and distribution facilities can be found in Alma, Georgia and Grand Junction, Michigan while its member-owned berry facilities operate seasonally out of Salem, Oregon and Hammonton, New Jersey. MBG also owns satellite service facilities in Holland and Bangor, Michigan and seasonally operates satellites out of Ravenna, Michigan; Ivanhoe, North Carolina; Demotte, Indiana and Gainesville, Florida. In 2012, MBG opened the doors to its value-added fresh operation and distribution center in Georgia. One year later, it launched its IQF (Individually Quick Frozen) value-added processing and packing facility in Bloomingdale, Michigan. In 2014, MBG’n new Best in Class facility in Alma, GA was born with IQF value-added processing and packaging operations.
